Batalha and Fatima

76th Day Friday, 12 March 2010

departure Obidos, 9:00 clock
arrival Fatima, 14:15 clock
Mileage: 78
Route: Obidos - Alcobaça - Batalha - Fatima
Visits: Batalha , Convento
night: Coordinates: -8.67120, 39.63398
Weather: sunny, 19 degrees, cold wind

That was already the fourth sunny day in a row. When we have had recently? With such beautiful weather makes it a joy to drive through the beautiful Portugal. Our first stop today was Batalha.
The village was built around the Dominican monastery. The monastery owes its creation to a promise of the king before a major battle. With the aid of an elite British archers on 15 August 1385 of the enemy in the level of Aljubarrota beaten decisively. Portugal was saved, and thus began a 200-year long-running heyday des Landes.

(Do good!). The Unfinished chapels can be reached only from the outside. It's the Barbara Chapel, Chapel of the Madonna of the Rosary, Chapel of the weeping Virgin and St. Michael's Chapel. The first shows the cloister, completed Manueline,

in the fountain pavilion Arab influence is unmistakable.

Many, many photos were taken during our tour. The Manueline style was influenced only in Portugal. This style combines late Gothic and oriental elements, such as plants and exotic animals with elements of navigation, such as anchors and ropes. For me it is the most beautiful romantic woman style at all.

Fátima art history offers little. The modern sanctuary was built after 1917, three shepherd children had an apparition of the Virgin Mary. On 13 May 1928, the foundation stone for the neo-baroque cathedral set.
The forecourt is twice as large as St. Peter's Square in Rome. It is located on the grounds of a specially created parking area for campers. Most come because of the sanctuary, but rather because of the free parking space here. As we know, the Pope will pay a visit to Fatima at Easter.

Next we went west, to .....!
Until then

15.03.2010 - 01:04 .2010: From Georgia to Texas

15.03. 2010 - Savannah (Georgia )

little sad we were when we left Florida. We were in this varied landscape with the emerald green sea, white beaches, the many wild animals and used to the pleasant temperatures. We were happy but also to the experiences lies before us and especially Mexico.

Once again we had a strict schedule - on 3 April is running from our U.S. visa and on 17 April, we have to be in Cancun (Mexico) at the airport, because our daughter, Catherine comes to visit. We were delighted to us how to see them again after half a year. From Florida, we drove a bit to the north. We were told: Sav annah in Georgia should be worth the detour. And Savannah this detour was worth it!

Savannah is a great historic town that can rightly be called southern beauty. With magnificent houses and buildings from the colonial period with its past proudly. In converted cotton warehouses on the Savannah River is a commercial area with bars, restaurants and shops. It smells of homemade candies and chocolates, and in many shops you could try these sweet treats in the purchase. A business it had done to us all special. Here nuts were offered in all kinds of flavors. Perhaps we took the friendly invitation: "You can taste everything," a bit too literally. In any case, we needed became a little to quench your thirst. Since we did the little bar at the River Street just right. Friendly, but very determined we were stopped at the entrance and asked for our ID card. The background was that only people over 21 have access to the bars. It is hard to believe - but we were not admitted. We had no identity documents and it could not prove that we are older than 21 years.

Our walking tour took us further along the old streets and the many well-kept, typical of Savannah parks. In a sidewalk cafe, we made a break. People were running past us, urgent business, cultured Southern women and many black people in business attire. This s cohabitation is now normal. At several places in Savannah, we were able to see mementos of a different time, a time of racial segregation and discrimination against the black population. What an enormous development, the U.S. has taken in this regard in recent years is also the fact that it is impossible for an African American nor 1962 was to complete a university degree. As this year are James Meredith enrolled as the first black at the University of Mississippi should we have had serious unrest and violence. Today, barely 50 years later, the country is ruled by a black president.

Preferably we would have stayed a little longer sit in the cafe but we still wanted to Forsyth Park, the most beautiful and largest of the 21 parks of this city. Surrounded by beautiful villas, this park is located on the southern border of the old town. He generously invested a lot of space for various sports and leisure activities. The main attraction and most popular photo subject is the beautiful fountain at the park entrance. The water of the fountain was dyed green, in preparation for St. Patrick's Day, celebrated on the next day with a big parade in Savannah.

After this sightseeing tour we were pretty tired pavement. Good thing there in a shuttle service of the Savannah Visitor Center s were. So we came to our fast and convenient parking and a hobby where Basko had been too long waiting for us.

19.03.2010 - New Orleans (Louisiana)

The following days were travel days. We crossed Florida from East to West drove to the Gulf Coast of Alabama, Mississippi and then on a direct route to New Orleans (Louisiana).

the early morning we crossed, with 38 km on the second longest bridge in the world, located north of New Orleans Lake Pontchartrain. This lake is three times as large as the Lake is located a few meters higher than the city of New Orleans. On 30 August 2005 several levees broke here, and the lake flooded large parts of the city. We were surprised how little of the catastrophic devastation that Katrina had done in 2005, were still visible. The area on the Mississippi, the Business District and especially the French Quarter were also little affected - most of the destruction Katrina has in the south of the city and served directly on the Gulf Coast. There, the consequences of this flooding disaster, are today not eliminated completely.

We found very quickly a secure car park and strolled over the River Walk to the French Quarter, the highlight of the city. This is the heart of New Orleans. In the music bars of Bourbon Street in the evening's hottest parties be celebrated - but showed early in the afternoon, New Orleans at its best. On the road playing jazz bands, jugglers and street musicians showed their shows and so many earned so his livelihood and hopes for the great discovery. Everywhere smells of Creole and the typical Louisiana Cajun cuisine. From the bars sounded live music, a movie was shot and all throbbing life. On Royal Street, we went to a quiet, here are the most beautiful historic houses with the typical wrought-iron balconies that shape these closed historic town of New Orleans.

New Orleans has impressed us with its cultural diversity and vitality of its people very much. For us it is one of the most interesting and authentic cities in North America. After Hurricane Katrina was serious discussion about abandoning the city of New Orleans completely. It would have been unimaginable loss!

24.03.2010 - Houston, Corpus Christi and Padre Iceland ( Texas )

From New Orleans, we drove along the shortest route to Texas. There we wanted to spend the last days by the end of our visa and prepare for the new travel section.

The AAA Automobile Club in Houston, we were greeted warmly with our ADAC membership card. The lady at the information desk was very much astonished, and after we had called our great destinations, asking for information and an insurance for the camper. "Why do you want to go to Mexico? It is dangerous ... "and then she became more excited. From her tirade, we were only the individual words: "Bandidos", "Drug-Cartel", "Killer" and "kidnapping" to understand. After she could not dissuade us but by our project ended every sentence (on fit, be careful) with "Be careful". When we asked her if she had made for himself already had bad experiences in Mexico, she told us that they've never been to Mexico and would never go there.

of informational materials, certificate of insurance and lots of good advice, we left the office. Such a response to our travel plans we had experienced many times in the U.S.. Mexico and Bandidos are two words that go together in the language of most Americans simply.

In the large HEB supermarket in Corpus Christi Mary was at the cake counter and distributed samples of their delicious strawberry cake. At our debate they recognized us as a German and we got talking. Mary was 8 years ago from England to Texas and has lived in the meantime also 3 years in Mexico. She gushed of Mexico, gave us travel tips and cleaned out our concerns. "The border region is not safe because you should you not stay long, but otherwise -. Let you the beautiful country does not spoil"

little bit confused we were. What is right - what an exaggeration? Even the Foreign Ministry issued a rather critical assessment of the security situation in Mexico. We will be cautious and we'll find out! The last few days in Texas and our anticipation of Mexico, we did not want to spoil.

ago Corpus Christi is North Padre Iceland, a long island with several state and a national park. At the almost pristine coast, we could directly related to the mobile home on the beach and camping. So we spent some wonderful days here and enjoyed sun, sand and sea, but also evening Camp fire and steaks from the grill.

on Padre Iceland we were even at Snoopy's eating our first oyster. Maxi from Jena had raved about the baked oysters - and they were really delicious. Another new experience, of which we have in the past few months have made so many.

01.04.2010 - Good Bye USA

The days at Padre Iceland left us time to move past the last half year in the U.S. in review.

The U.S. is a very beautiful, safe, clean and well organized holiday destination with an outstanding infrastructure. Nature is simply terrific and the National, State and Countyparks much is being done to preserve this original landscape. The people are friendly, open and accessible. Noteworthy is their full national pride.

The public glorification of war, including those to which one - to say the least - not without reservation be proud looked at us puzzled.

Life in the U.S. is not so different from ours. Men have their joy, but also their fears and worries. Only here, everything has a different dimension. The cars, the streets, the houses - everything is bigger. Unfortunately this is also of wealth and poverty. It is shocking how many people in their cars have to live. In the evening you are looking for a quiet corner in a parking lot and spend as the night. It was noticeable that many Americans have very bad teeth. You can not afford the dentist and have no health insurance.

Very much money is invested in education. We saw almost all modern schools with large sports facilities. The system of school transport and care is regulated excellent. Each community has its own extensive library.

also using the Internet put the U.S. standards. In addition to free access in all libraries and many private companies (. As in all McDonalds restaurants), more and more cities to about to install a free public network - for us as a traveler an excellent opportunity to Skype and e-mail contact with our children to maintain family and friends. Unusual

for us was the regulation of the life in the United States. At each park, beach, in inner cities or other public places are on display endless Rules (Rules), which usually start with NO ... . We thought sometimes it would be easier to write down what is still permitted. Compliance with these rules of sheriffs and rangers consistently monitored and enforced.

In summary we can say that the U.S. is a great holiday destination with friendly people and countless natural wonders. We have a little insight get in this country, many have seen, but a lot left out. For us a reason to come back someday and continue the discovery.

Multiple Myeloma - Life Expectancy

Peniche and Obidos (the Rothenburg Portugal)

Route: Cabo da Roca - Colares - Sintra - Ericeira - Ribamar - Peniche
Visits: Cabo Carvoeiro
night: Peniche, Cabo Carvoeiro, Coordinates: - 9.40843, 39.35990
Weather: sunny, 22 degrees

The night was very quiet at the Cabo da Roca. There was little Wind. The lights that came from the lighthouse flashed over the landscape. Society, we only had two mobile homes from France. The mobile guard had allowed us to stay here. In the morning we went back before the hype went off again after Colares Sintra. In Sintra verekhrsmäßig much was going on. We turned north. Along the coast we went to Peniche. In Portugal, in recent years changed very much. Noticed we are also the many new developments - many are offered for sale. Sometimes the houses are not inhabited, but again see something come down. Of course, there had been much rain this winter and a lot of storm - but still.

75. Tag Donnerstag, 11. März 2010

Abfahrt: Peniche,9:00 Uhr
Ankunft: Obidos, 9:45 clock
Mileage: 29
Route: Peniche - Obidos

The pitch is located at Aqueduct . By day you can park for free. Development and the care we can for 2 €. In one night (6 €) this is free.
Weather: sunny, 22 degrees

When I last night in the motorhome to the Atlantic looked, I was the star-lit sky and admire some fishing boats. The transition from sea to sky was not apparent. Today we had again a piece of jewelry on our list of visits. Obidos was soon reached. When we arrived before the "gate" of the city, was on a large poster to be heard, just that the "VIII International Festival of Chocolate" in Rothenburg Portugal takes place. Many schools were in the morning on the road.
The original Moorish wall (13 m) has a floor plan of an acute-angled triangle. We walked to the entrance of the Pousada on the historic wall and enjoyed wonderful views. The streets, the neat white houses with blue or yellow remote door and window frames and corners , flowers in small gardens, a tile decorated gate, the pillory of the 15th Century and the Igreja Santa Maria of 1737 invited to a walk.

Every now and then we plunged into one of the many small shops to buy chocolate and taste. A land of plenty for our sweet tooth.

The next stage takes about Batalha and Fatima to Tomar.

up soon

How Do You Unblock Runescape

About Evora westernmost point of mainland Europe

70th - 72.Tag Saturday 06 to Monday, 08 March 2010

Abfahrt: Monsaraz, 9:30 Uhr
Ankunft: Evora, 11:45 Uhr
Kilometer: 65
Route: Monsaraz - Evora
Besichtigungen: Evora
Übernachtung: Evora, Camping Orbitur, Koordinaten: -7.92699; 38.55714, auf dem Campingplatz gibt es WiFi
Wetter: Samstag: Regen, 12 Grad; Sonntag: Schauer, 15 Grad, Montag: Schauer, 13 Grad

Von dort aus ist es gar nicht far Evora - one of my favorite cities in Portugal. The city is almost completely surrounded by a wall from Roman times. The special attraction of Évora is located in the narrow streets, squares and building facades, wrought-iron gates, marble fountains and the paving of roads and streets, arcades and small cafes.

coming from the camp site we came to the former Jewish quarter. Its narrow streets are designed so that a continuous view is not possible. Crafts, mom and pop shops and antiques now revive the area. Soon we arrived at the Praca do Giraldo. A popular meeting place is the Renaissance marble fountain of 1571 before the Collegiate Santo Antão. The well is currently hidden, because a fundamental restructuring is necessary. In the Igreja da Graca with its baroque facade in the style of Michelangelo's over, we strolled through Rua Miguel Bombarda acting on the serene Largo das Portas de Moura. Dominating the square of the Renaissance fountain with the Globe in 1556.

reached through narrow streets, we after a short ascent to the most significant buildings Évora, Sé Cathedral. With its establishment) was the Gothic entry into Portugal. Twelve Apostles marble figures guarding the main entrance.
The landmark Évora are the ruins of the Roman temple from the 2 / 3 Century. Of the former 18 Corinthian columns are still 14th

The northern part has its own charm. It is the area with no tourists, where Évora is at home. In the alleys of the wash tubs in front of the house.

We came to the aqueduct on Roman foundations, formerly supplied the city with water. Between the arches houses were later added.

After the tour a coffee was needed. In the Arcade cafe we relaxed a little and could again in light drizzle to take back to the campsite and relax. Our neighbor at the campsite was a Finn. Franz greeted him with "Hyvä päivä. He was amazed that it welcomed a German, in Finnish. A long conversation followed. The gentleman from Finland travels alone through the south of Europe - his partner has to work.

Wetter: sonnig, 18 Grad

Pena was influenced by Moorish, Gothic and manual-style elements. "Steffi" led us across the mountains of the moon. The landscape is very appealing.

repeatedly offered us views of the blue, sparkling in the sun Atlantic. Soon we reached our present day's destination - the westernmost point of mainland Europe - Cabo da Roca. Here is a lot going on - buses take tourists all charges. But it is not nearly as crowded as the North Cape.
stood on the site of many trash cans, which were all equipped with broken umbrellas. As we know, it was at Cabo da Roca on the previous day very windy.
