As a farewell, we are once again walking through Silves. Of course it was again announced a café visit. Then, still updating the blog before we headed for Lagos. We used the highway. The rivers are by the constant rain rose out of its banks. Lots of sand and clay, they have brought from the mountains. repeatedly showed beautiful valleys of rolling hills were limited. By the constant rain, the meadows are particularly juicy green. Them are the orange and almond trees. When we got to the campsite, we were amazed how it changes us presents. A group of Dutch have also arrived and were about to position their caravan on the muddy places correctly. On Saturday it was
storm warning. In gusts it should, 160 mph. We moved from our stand on the hill in the lower part of the place. The storm seemed to us not as strong - and the evening was all over. As we saw the next day in the news, it has in France, the major devastation with many dead given. Also in Germany the storm raged. On Sunday was also washed the rest of the laundry. In the morning's sunshine dried them quickly.

65th-66. Day Monday 01 March to Tuesday 02 March

departure Luz, 9:00
clock arrival: Silves, 13.00 km
clock: 40
Route: Luz - Lagos - Silves
Visits: Lagos
night: Silves, parking at the indoor pool
weather: Monday: sunny, 22 degrees, Tuesday: Cloudy

We had no reason to stay at the campsite - the laundry was clean and back in the bag. Still locked and thrown away and off we went to new experiences.
Our next destination was Lagos. The city is well known to us. However, there is a decisive reason to go to Lagos. The englis he bakery Padaria Thurs Wini, 10 in the Rua S. Gonçalo In a small café, you can leave it at Black Forest cake, Frankfurter Kranz, poppy cuts, bee sting etc. go well. There are also whole grain bread, rye bread, rye bread and pretzels to buy. Not only German countrymen shopping here, no, Europe is represented. The local people love cake and bread recipes for German. I can only recommend this bakery.
Lagos flourished under Henry the Navigator. On the Praca da República, Avenida dos at the Flußuferstraße Decobrimentos, is his monument. In the city there was a shipyard for caravels, from here many explorers sailed into the unknown world. They brought gold, precious stones, spices and the first slaves. Thus, Lagos also developed the first slave market in Europe. The house of the slave traders can still be seen. Assuming the slave market to the sea, one comes to the ramparts and from there to Fort Pau da Bandeira and the old fishing port. Here the wall is very well preserved. Lagos has the longest city wall from the time of King Manuel I in the Algarve.
as protective ledge is the Ponte da Piedade, the bridge of piety, Lagos upstream. From these cliffs it was the last visual contact with the leaking vessels, from where the lighthouse keeper on the returning ships notify the waiting relatives. From above, a plateau of rock, the beauty is only at the descent of the stairs. are tens of beach bays between Lagos and the Ponte de Piedade.
Since it is difficult to stay directly in Lagos with the motor home, we drove back to Silves to the parking lot from the pool. Also a visit to the hand loading of Silves made the stay is necessary. In Silves I just feel at home.

67th Day Wednesday, 03 March 2010

Departure: Silves, 10:00
clock arrival Odemira, 15:15 clock
Mileage: 192
Route: Silves - Monchique - Vila do Bispo - Sagres - Aljezur - Odemira
Visits: Monchique in the rain, Fortezza de Sagres in the rain and storm
night: gave rain, 19 degrees

storm it for breakfast today: 37.59843
weather, -8.64654: Odemira, parking at the Rio Mira, coordinates. Long time we considered what we do with the rainy day. The Internet was the forecast for today - until midday rain, then sun. When we started gene Monchique, was just the sun. Good cheer we went into the Sierra de Monchique. The sunshine duration was only 20 minutes. From then on we went from a "world" to another. In Monchique we turned back to - on top of the mountain it was too foggy. Our next goal Vila do Bispo. In the footsteps of Henry the Navigator, it went to the southwestern point of Europe. was first the landscape to the west still lovely, hilly and green. The trip turned out to be very windy. Once in place, we did not find a suitable location. After lunch we went to the Fortezza Sagres. After Vila do Bispo to change its face. Only crouched plants keep the eternal wind from the Atlantic was it was too stormy, than that you could spend a night. It's really an uplifting Feeling of standing at the southwestern end of the European mainland. Here was the navigator of the school Infante Henriques. Up to 43 m in diameter, large "wind rose" in the courtyard all comes from the period after the earthquake. For 40 years Henry has lived here and made plans for the discoveries of the unknown world, surrounded by the specialists of the time. Henry the Navigator's never been to sea.
Odemira was our ultimate destination today. At Rio de Mira, we are in the parking lot. There is no wind. A couple from Holland in the Hymer Gold spent the coffee break, but then went on to Milfontes.

The next highlight on this trip is Monsaraz. Schmuckstückchen this is the next post dedicated. Until then greets the
